Emily and Steven's elopement at Belle Isle couldn't have been more perfect - or more perfectly timed. The couple chose to exchange their vows in front of the iconic Belle Isle fountain, which holds extra significance as it is closing for at least two years of renovations beginning just this week.
With just Emily's two best friends serving as witnesses, their intimate celebration embodied everything I love about elopements - focusing completely on the couple and their commitment to each other. What made this day even more special was that I had the honor of not just photographing their day, but as an ordained minister, I was thrilled to sign their marriage license and make their union official.
After their vows, and a perfect first kiss, we took advantage of having the entire island to explore. The spring greenery provided the perfect backdrop as we wandered through Belle Isle's most picturesque spots. Emily and Steven were so natural together, their happiness absolutely radiating through every frame.
To celebrate their Cinco de Mayo wedding date in style, the couple brought along tacos from their favorite local spot. I can't think of a more perfect way to toast to a new marriage than with good food shared in a beautiful setting!
Looking back on this day, I'm struck by how Emily and Steven created exactly the wedding day that reflected them - no fuss, no stress, just two people promising forever against the backdrop of a Detroit landmark. As the fountain takes its temporary hiatus, I love knowing that their moment there is now part of its history.
Congratulations Emily & Stephen!
